Basic Obedience Training provides numerous benefits for both dogs and their owners. By teaching dogs basic commands and behaviours, owners can establish a positive and cooperative relationship with their furry companions.

Some of the key benefits of basic obedience training include:

  • Improved behaviour and obedience: Basic obedience training can help dogs learn to follow commands and behave appropriately in different situations. This can reduce problem behaviours such as jumping up, barking excessively, or pulling on the leash.
  • Increased socialization: Basic obedience training can also help dogs become more comfortable and confident in social situations. By exposing dogs to different people, places, and other animals, owners can help their dogs develop social skills and learn appropriate behaviour around others.
  • Enhanced communication between dog and owner: Through basic obedience training, owners can learn to communicate more effectively with their dogs. By using consistent commands and positive reinforcement, owners can teach their dogs what is expected of them and build a stronger bond with their furry companions.
  • Strengthened bond between dog and owner: Basic obedience training can help build a stronger bond between dogs and their owners. By spending time training together and achieving shared goals, dogs and their owners can establish a deeper connection and sense of trust.
  • Improved safety for the dog and those around them: Basic obedience training can also help keep dogs and those around them safe. By teaching dogs to come when called, stay, and heel, owners can ensure that their dogs are under control and less likely to run into dangerous situations or cause harm to others.

Overall, Basic Obedience Training is an important step in establishing a positive and fulfilling relationship between dogs and their owners. By providing dogs with the skills and tools they need to behave appropriately and confidently, owners can ensure that their furry companions are happy, healthy, and well-adjusted.

How Obedience Training Works

Basic Obedience Training

Basic Obedience Training typically involves a series of structured classes where dogs are taught basic commands and behaviours. At The Dog Stop, our trainers are experienced and knowledgeable, and work closely with dogs and their owners to ensure that they are learning in a safe and supportive environment.

We offer a comprehensive basic obedience training program that is designed to help dogs and their owners build a strong foundation for more advanced training. Our program consists of two levels, with each level building upon the skills and behaviours learned in the previous level. Following completion of the Basic Levels, you then will be eligible to attend our Social Obedience Program.

Obedience Level 1 Training Program

The Dog Stop’s Basic Obedience Level 1 Training Program is a group class that focuses on teaching dogs the foundational commands they need to be well-behaved and obedient companions. During the program, dogs are taught a variety of commands including Sit, Stay, Release, Heel, Down, Place, and Recall.

The Level 1 Program is designed to help establish a strong and positive relationship between dogs and their owners by reducing problem behaviours such as aggression or destructiveness. It also helps to improve behaviour and obedience, increase socialization, and enhance communication between dogs and their owners.

One of the benefits of the program is that it is conducted in a group setting with a maximum of 6 dog participants. This allows for personalized attention and individualized instruction to ensure that each dog and owner receives the support they need to succeed. Additionally, group training provides an opportunity for dogs to socialize with other dogs and learn important social skills.

By the end of the Level 1 Program, dogs will have mastered the basic commands and be well on their way to becoming obedient and well-behaved companions.

Obedience Level 2 Training Program

Our Basic Obedience Level 2 Training Program is designed to build on the foundational skills and commands taught in the Level 1 Program. This program introduces more advanced commands, with greater distance, duration, and distractions, to further strengthen dogs’ obedience and behaviour.

The Level 2 Program is beneficial for both dogs and owners as it allows dogs to continue to develop their skills and provides owners with the tools they need to effectively communicate with their furry companions. The program also includes Canine Good Neighbour training in preparation for certification, which can open up new opportunities for dogs and their owners.

Similar to the Level 1 Program, the Level 2 is conducted in a group setting with a maximum of 6 dog participants, allowing for personalized attention and individualized instruction. This also provides dogs with the opportunity to socialize and practice their skills in a controlled environment.

By the end of the Level 2 Program, dogs will have mastered advanced commands and be well-equipped to navigate real-life situations with confidence and obedience.
